Part 35: "Wait what the FUCK they coded in dialogue!?" Words fail me. This is a special one right here.
It's been a little while since the last update, but this update will be well worth the wait, I promise. And we're already starting this update on a terrible note.
Megs is SUPER impressed as well. Hooray!
REALLY!? 200!? This fucking game.
Hey now, that's enough for something from the vending machine- oh yeah... the progs..
Fires on multiple levels. MegaMan the fireman.
And for once he's fighting fire instead of settings 'em!
Oh, that Prog that we fed the data to? Yeaaah, he ain't here. He dead.
HE'S HAVING A NAP. OFFSCREEN. Like that little namek kid in dragon ball z
Cuntbag is taunting us.
I think it's spelt "Mr Match" but this might be another instance where Australian and US English differ
Sure, Lan. Fight him with fisticuffs, see how that goes. But srsly, fuck him. This now means we have to travel to another area and douse the fires.
What's worse than flames? FLAMES BEHIND PRESS PATHS!!
Man, and after all that hard work you did causing those fires in the first place...
AND I'M GETTING PROGRESSIVELY SHITTIER REWARDS!
Progress is your true reward. Or something
Be sure to check all the branching pathways for flames
Because Mr Match will KNOW if you miss one.
Oh, of course the last one in Yoka was right where BubbleMan was. This game LOVES to troll you with BubbleMan.
Aw, BubbleMan. Happy memories
At least Beach Area is the last of them.
See, now this is decent -- a free 3 flames to put out.
I'm glad you seem to've gotten over your chip-hoarding issues.
And this was the last one over here.
Hooray! And Mr Match even called to congratulate you. HE'S NOT ALL BAD*
*yes he is
Cuntbag! Come out and fight me! I am an 11 year old boy!
THE MOST WORTHY OF FOES
Oooo, the Undernet. A fitting battleground indeed!
It's never good to hear that from a bad guy, huh?
Uh-oh.
You asshole! Wait, where's the fire? The emergency e-mail said a fire had broke out. I'm guessing it has to do with sprite limitations. After all, you have the NPCs, mugshot, map, map objects, etc., all going on at the same time.
You- wow they even did custom sprites for the NPCs being passed out. Ways in which this is better than MMBN4: all of them.
He went through the extra mile to taunt Lan. What a guy.
As opposed to BubbleMan, who's the biggest world's jerk. Or some other less-forced fat joke.
If you really wanted to piss off Lan, you could have lied and said that Dr. Hikari didn't make it.
You'd think it's a low-blow to go this far just to pick on an 11-year old. Not for the WWW!
I'm coming for your ass!
Is it because he's a jerk who tried to kill all these scientists, or because of that awful, awful play on "doesn't look so hot"?
Because they're both extremely valid reasons.
Well, good thing I explored the Undernet in an earlier update, so I don't need to cover anything else again.
You can't see it because it completely took me by surprise, but there was a weird pixellation in the graphics just as soon as MegaMan stepped into the area. Wonder what that's all about?
Probably just like, the internet buffering or something. THAT SOUNDS LEGIT.
Something strong enough to cause a huge disturbance? USE THE FORCE, MEGAMAN! SENSING POWERFUL NAVIS IS YOUR SPECIAL SKILL!
It's lag, I'm pretty sure.
Is it Giver?
Nah, Giver doesn't emit power like this.
"Penetrating cores"
You're really into "penetrating cores", huh?
As MegaMan walks by, this guy from the previous update walks into the area. Hmm, R U DA STRONG GAI?
Generic navis, yeah buddy!
And on our way to fight FlamMan, we get stopped again. Something isn't right here.
Yeah, gotta admit, that many cutscenes all at once is never a good sign.
What the shit?
Either somebody's got some sort of weird throat problem, or-
Groudon used Earthquake.
It wasn't very effective...
This path stays broken for the rest of the game. No walkway for you.
I'm more concerned that he's worried about falling off. I mean there's never been any sort of guardrail on the internet so far. And you can fall off? Oh dear.
No? That is the thing that's out of place in this setting? Really?
What, is that like the only natural disaster that hasn't simultaneously occurred on the internet? Weird.
MegaMan walks back, prompting the player to find another path.
Pictured: the one time ever team Mega didn't immediately get distracted when shit's going down.
Once again, this guy appears from the edge of the screen and watches us. Fucking stalker.
Naw buddy, he's a fan! You wanted fans, right?
Yeah, man. Random earthquakes make progression difficult.
Should have brought a flying-type. OK I should cool it with the pokermans jokes.
>Coaxing the guy who can perform Bruce Lee into a battle.
>No concern for his own well-being
Hilarious that you even have the option.
Hoo boy!
Bashers: Fun little guys. They generate cursors on either your front column, bottom row or back column depending on the version. Once the cursors spot you, the virus jumps into the air and hits the column/row you were detected in. All panels are broken in the hit area except the panels with the player or an object on them. Fire damage. Too bad we can't fight these viruses to farm for their chips yet. Their chip is hands down one of my favorites in the series.
That guy looks rad as hell, whoah. This HeelNavi must be a cool guy.
Yet we still cannot beat the almight Heel Navi Guard.
Well sure, he ain't asking to fight you so what can you do? Probably nothing.
So much cutscenes on the way there, yeesh.
Something big is coming. Brace yourselves!
Way to ruin the fun, Mega.
Yeah, don't worry. Killer/Giver is here and can wreck any noobs.
Wow, that dude is realllllyyy infatuated with us.
Yeah but in his defence you guys are new best friends.
Boss time!
It's time to sandbag hard by putting in weak chips that no-one should ever be using. I am only doing this to hold myself back.
Also to show off.
Ah, hell! It's the DesertMan speak!
Except.... dumber?
Wraah...Aaah...
(These shit chips that I'm putting in will make you seem way worse than you actually are.)
Wrhahahahahaha....
(This is gonna suck!)
This is gonna blow.
FUCK THESE CHIPS!
I don't need to go into a technical explanation, just watch and see why I'm complaining so much about AirStorm, Rope and Needler1. I make the last one look decent, but really, its uses are quite limited.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj0x6rFitTw
I knew I shouldn't have been using those chips! I was rocking Minibombs for fuck's sake!
He's just standing there screaming. Which.... actually isn't too different to what he was doing before the battle, let's be honest.
Okay, okay, so I took some damage, pffft. I still got this!
Huh?
Whraaaa?
Something really bad is gonna happen, isn't it.
Naw, what could go wrong on the UnderNet?
This gon' be guuuuuuud
We are all doomed. DOOMED.
This is my reaction too, but for different reasons I'm pretty sure.
Permission to shit my pants?
Granted
Dude just got FUCKED!
It had to happen eventually.
And Mr. Match decides to retreat.
Pffft Mega could have done that he just didn't want to
I have to change my pants.
Permission to change pants granted
Sorry, time for me to switch over.
Alternate Universe!
Hooray! I hope this is the universe were all those Mr Progs lived!
I had to have a save up to this point in White Version. Since trying to make a mirror copy of my progress on Blue would have no doubt held the update back by quite a bit, I settled for a Challenge run. 120 HP Run, bitches!
I think you should show off more.
Here's my NaviCust. In order to get all these Custom parts, I had to grind for Custom Style twice. Anyways, the math here says that I have Custom+5. Now, you may think that's a waste because you can have a max of 10 chips and Custom Style grants an extra chip in the cust screen. Well, we'll get to that in a minute.
A quick peek at my folder. Since I didn't fight nearly as many battles, naturally my folder's S-ranking capability went down the shitter. What should interest you is that weird chip called "Balance". Pay attention to WHERE it's located!
I'm not following very well so far. But let's see where this is going...
Kick that funky music!
Here's that funny chip I just mentioned. This right here is a White Version-exclusive Giga Chip. As the description says, it will reduce the HP of both sides of the field by half. This effect goes through ALL defenses last I checked.
Oh.
"Intense aura that can deflect anything" my ASS! As you can gather, this is an unwinnable fight, or at the very least it was supposed to...
OHHHHHH
For visual purposes, here is a Stop Watch that I was using during the recording of this battle. I didn't actually use an online stop watch, but rather than take a low quality picture of the one on my phone, here is a better one instead. What am I trying to do with it? Oh, I dunno...
Oh, no, here it comes. One of the hardest attacks to dodge in the series. That yellow cone spells trouble as that means he'll shoot orbs down our entire field in a random, very quick succession. Even professional players have trouble dodging this one as it's just that fast. But there's something you need to know about the community in general:
Ain't nobody more skilled than Big G.
G-dawg showed me this gif before he posted it in the thread. I think my response was something along the lines of "You fucker" because.... DAMN
Alright, so nothing can pierce his Aura, yeah? And Giga Chips can only be used once, so that means we lost. That WOULD be true if Capcom could have caught all their oversights during production.
We'll select this chip, now divert your eyes over to Yoyo1 G at the end of the Cust Screen.
By hovering over to our 10th chip and then by pressing Right, we can see an 11th chip! Weird, huh? Well, with Custom Style giving one extra chip for free and with the Custom parts in my NaviCust totaling +5, that equals 11. Capcom just didn't bug check this :U
Now, we cannot select SonicWave M and Yoyo1 E, so let's select Yoyo1 G first.
Wait, when I pressed A, the first chip I chose just changed! Isn't that the same chip I used last round?
o holy cow
This is what is called the 11th Chip Glitch. If you have enough room in your NaviCust to have at least Custom+5 and if you have Custom Style, you can perform this glitch. This necessitates getting Custom Style twice, but it's really, really worth it. Let's re-visit a screenie for a second:
Notice how Balance is the SECOND chip listed in this folder. The second chip in the folder listing will be the chip you overwrite your first chip in battle with. So, if the second chip was CopyDmg, and if I selected Cannon as my first chip, then Cannon would be overwritten with CopyDmg! This means I can use any chip a high number of times if I really wanted. This is overpowered as fuck, so I won't be using it much in this Let's Play.
Yeah, bitch! I can use Balance as many times as I want! SUCK IT!
I want to note a few key things: Capcom had the good sense to disable UnderShirt for this fight. That means you can't cheese with the Invincibility trick of being on Grass. All of Bass' attacks do 200 damage. The Aura is also unkillable. There is an attack that can specifically break Auras but they also had the sense to make it not work for this fight. So, while I'm making fun of Capcom for this oversight, they covered their bases decently.
You also can't use my favourite Bass cheese in this fight, which is rather sad.
Oh, I'm having so much fun with this.
I can get killed in like one hit, but I gotta keep dodging. I have a time goal to meet, dammit.
Damn, son!
Only battle time is getting counted. Now, this isn't exact. When I did this, I had to stop the watch each time I went back to the screen or otherwise keep a running total in my head of how much time I spent in the Custom Screen. I would then subtract my time to get the estimated battle time.
Geez, I needed to set automatic screencaps to get some of these. Trying to screenshot while concentrating to dodge the buster is fucking impossible.
And as we all should know, recording can lag the game juuuuust enough to make perfect key presses impossible (it's why I couldn't record any VarSword shenanigans last game)
WHAT THE FUCK MAN! That's dodgeable, but it'll be a very tight frame dodge. I'm serious. What I just posted IS dodgeable.
Don't lie to me, man.
This is getting to be hard to cope with. My hands are fucking sweating. Also, pruning dozens of screenshots for a select few good ones is a pain.
I Balance'd myself to one HP, now let's see what happens.
EDGE OF THE SEAT, EVERYBODY
Balance can't kill you, unfortunately. No matter how many times I use it, it won't win me this fight.
Why, yes, I'm telling this whole fight through screenshots. I have to wait a long time and it's mostly repetitive.
Well, I used Balance again. And we're both at 1 HP.
Remember this? I bought Anubis in my Blue version quite a few updates ago. In White, Anubis can be gotten for 150 BugFrags in the secret Undernet 2 dealer. But let's actually make that 80k I spent worthwhile!
I WIN, MOTHERFUCKER!
It doesn't fucking work! I wasted on 80,000Z on Anubis for NOTHING! Yes, this is what I was planning to use it on! This fight! And no, it's not because he is at 1 HP, it doesn't work when he's at full health either. SHIT!!
Yep, my favourite Bass cheese, poison. Don't even need to bring down the barrier if you poison the field! Capcom you sly bastards.
I'm out of fucking options.
C'mon, something needs to work! Anything!
MetalMan's fist won't break the Aura?
TBF MetalMan is kind of a wuss.
DAMN! Even using the Style only chips don't work on this guy!
Fuckin' unbeatable navis man, I tell you what.
These chips of mine glow with an awesome power.
Their burning power tells me to defeat you!
H-Burst!!!
Well... at least it looked cool, right?
I'm down to using an Airshot+RockCube strategy. Jesus. That's supposed to deal 200 damage via slamming the Cube into an enemy by using an AirShot or GutsPunch.
The power of Bass is greater than the power of Metal or Rock.
I.... don't know what to say about that.
Go, GutsMan! You're my only hope!
I should have known...
That would have been hugely embarrassing for Bass if it did work though.
Fuck, I'm down to my last two chips. I can't stall anymore, I just can't. I mean, I got Bruce Lee here, but still!
Hmm, wait. What's my time?
YESSSS!!!
Everybody was kung-fu fighting!!
Those kids were fast as lightning!
In fact it was a little bit frightening!
But they fought with expert timing!
I can do this! I! CAN! DO THIS!
Final turn, set! Go!
Ho. Ly. Shit! No fucking way!
We're seeing some real obscure shit now!
what the-
WHAT THE-
aaaaaaaa
AAAAAAAAAAAA
Brought to you by none other than the best!
I told you this thread needed more Bruce Lee!
I... don't know if I can deal with this.
Bass doesn't appear to be all that tired. Yeesh. Even after all of that, he's still in control.
What is going on. HOW DO YOU STILL REIGN SUPREME.
Shit. This is looking really bad.
Jack the fuck out! I'll openly admit that if it was me in this situation, I'd be pretty boned. But that's why you jack out.
If I learned anything from these games it's that you never jack out
Someone's signal?
The man himself! And he sees MegaMan! FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-
Or maybe he doesn't. Lan only remarks that he hears Wily's voice. I'm guessing it's an audio call only.
But there's only so many idiots looking for macguffins in the world, ain't there?
And then Bass warps out. I guess getting all 4 codes is more important than fighting. Bass has to live up to his agreements, after all.
bass u motherfuckre
No kidding.
giver u motherfuckre
Close calls all around. *wipes off bead of sweat*
MegaMan does not like the prospect of a rematch against Bass. Hell, after that? I sure as hell wouldn't be. Not at least without some sort of weapon to fight against him.
I THINK YOU'VE GOT IT COVERED god damn son
Oh right, our father. He's probably dead by now.
Welp! Time to go groom beardman into being our replacement dad. He's got the programming skills down, and the is-never-at-home skills.
MegaMan jacks out and the camera pans over to someone familiar...
Yayyyy it's our stalker-fan-buddy-friend-guy! Finally something normal. What the hell, guy?
A little bit of insight into this:
In Japan, two versions of this game came out, EXE3 and EXE3 Black. EXE3 Black came out a few months after EXE3 and can be seen as the "updated" version. EXE3 Black was translated over here as Battle Network 3 Blue. Thus, EXE3 was their White version. Now, with White coming out first, Capcom had some time to go back and fix some of their errors from before. Thus, because the only chip to damage Bass is in this game, it's not possible in Blue. Bass only uses that slam attack when he's at low HP and since he's invulnerable to just about everything, then, yeah.
Now yes, you can just cheat in Blue version to obtain Balance, but I wanted to keep my Blue file clean. Secondly, given that Blue was the second release there is a chance this was found and locked. Now, I could be wrong on THAT, but this was very, very hard to do. It's a bitch to reproduce it and part of the reason this update took longer than usual. I'm not sure how many takes I had, but I do all my boss videos in one take usually. This one needed to be screenshot, and I had to live for 4 minutes. So this necessitated automatic screen-shotting.
I suspect this cutscene could have been seen normally just like with losing or winning to GutsMan, but for whatever reason, this was scrapped and not properly locked. Time constraints? Maybe. They produced these games about once every year so there was no doubt rushing and concessions to make. Only by exploiting oversights and getting horrendously lucky did I originally find this.
So why did Bowne bother to translate this scene? I don't have all the answers, but looking at their localization quality for Battle Network 1-4 sheds some light on their decision making process. Hey, I'm not complaining.
Hope? With Giver behind this you have a fucking guarantee!
Hail to the King, Echy.
BLING BLING MOTHERFUCKERRRRRRRRrrrrrr
Fade to white.
Switching back to Blue version for now.
I bet you still didn't take off your NetWatch, either, asshole.
Inside the Vending Machine...
Poor Mr. Prog. You see what you did, Lan!?
Also, don't mind the 1000 HP, I was just experimenting a little bit. Nothing to worry about.
N-no, they just... HE'S STILL ALIVE DAMMIT I KNOW HE IS
Inside Dr. Hikari's computer...
Dead Progs:
You were JUST on the floor.
he was just tired is all
This guy walks up. He got out of there before it got too late, though.
Now I see where Lan gets his boneheaded behaviour from!
Which is dumber: this or the radiation thing?
it doesn't matter, like father like son.
200? Boy, I want me some fried human legs.
Lan's dad is the worst at OH&S.
Oh shit.
Just the worst.
